Sandra Stamos

Chartered
Counselling Psychologist

I’m a counselling psychologist with over 30 years of experience, with more than half of that time working therapeutically and directly with neurodiversity (Autism, ADHD) and mental health difficulties.

My approach is integrative, drawing from a variety of therapeutic modalities to tailor each session to your unique needs.

Through the lens of integrative therapy, I combine the best aspects of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), and narrative therapy to empower my clients on their path toward their own goals for change and self-discovery.

Aletheia:
A Holistic Approach to Therapy

Each person’s experience and challenges are unique, and as such, there is no "one-size-fits-all" solution in therapy. Over my decades of practice, I’ve come to appreciate that the most effective approach is one that adapts to you as an individual.

My integrative approach combines different therapeutic techniques and  tools to meet you where you are and address the full spectrum of your emotional,  mental, and behavioural needs.

About

Psychodynamic therapy is grounded in the understanding that our past experiences, particularly those from childhood, shape who we are today.

As we explore your history, we can uncover patterns of behaviour, thoughts, and emotions that have been formed over the years.

Together, we’ll examine how unresolved conflicts, relationships, and unconscious beliefs might be affecting your current life.

By identifying these deep-rooted issues, we can work through them in a safe and compassionate environment, helping you understand how past experiences influence your present relationships, work-life, and personal identity. This approach fosters long-term healing and emotional growth.

CBT is a practical, goal-oriented approach that can help you challenge unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours. It is especially effective in addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, and negative self-talk.

By identifying and reshaping unhelpful  thoughts, CBT helps create healthier, more realistic perspectives. Through this process, you’ll learn how your thoughts influence your emotions and behaviours, and how to develop more adaptive ways of thinking.

This method provides you with tools to manage daily stressors and emotions in a positive way, helping you feel more in control of your life.

Narrative therapy is based on the idea that we all tell ourselves stories about who we are, and those stories shape how we see the world and respond to challenges. Sometimes, these stories can become limiting or distorted, influencing how we view ourselves and our potential.

Through narrative therapy, we work together to "re-author" your story. By identifying the narratives that may be holding you back, we can create new, empowering stories that align with your values and aspirations.

You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how your personal experiences and identity are shaped by the stories you’ve told yourself—and how changing the narrative can lead to profound personal growth.

Why choose an
integrative approach?

By drawing from these varied modalities, we can create a personalised treatment plan that’s uniquely suited to you. This approach provides flexibility, combining insights from multiple perspectives to bring about meaningful, lasting change.

My career started in working with children and families in social care and criminal justice settings. In the last 15 years I have concentrated on the area of neurodiversity and this remains one of my specialist areas.

I continue to provide diagnostic assessment and work therapeutically with individuals on the neurodevelopmental spectrum who are experiencing a range of  difficulties including depression, anxiety and relationship difficulties.

I also work with people who are grappling with broader difficulties such as low self-esteem, grief and loss and managing the emotional impact of unresolved trauma from their past, using also EMDR training where relevant.
